Established in 1967, Gwynn’s of Mount Pleasant is the only independently and locally owned luxury department store in the Charleston Tri-County area offering men’s and women’s designer clothing and accessories; shoes; cosmetics and skincare; upscale gifts and home accessories. Gwynn’s has been an institution in the Charleston market for 56 years that “excels in designer clothing and old-school service,” according to Southern Living Magazine.
Renowned for its exclusives and designer labels including Jimmy Choo, Loro Piana, Ermenegildo Zegna, Brunello Cucinelli, Lafayette 148, Tory Burch, Trish McEvoy, Tom Ford and more, the 20,000 square foot department store offers personal shopping services, merchandise and gift delivery, tailoring, and a popular bridal registry.
Gwendolyn and Norris Ward open Gwynn’s—a 600 sq ft store specializing in women’s clothing brands like Bobbie Brooks & Villager.
Gwynn’s moves to a shopping center across the street and eventually takes over two asjacent spaces—adding children’s, gifts, and menswear.
Gwynn’s relocates again to a recently vacant Grants retail space.
Gwynn’s is purchased by Marshall and Lynn Simon; son-in-law and daughter of the original founders.
Marshall and Lynn acquire land in Mount Pleasant and build the current 22,000 sq ft storefront.
Gwynn’s undergoes significant renovations—adding luxury private shopping suites and an expanded tailoring shop.
